List of structural units to be included into the StrAU

The School will be established by merging the following academic units:

  • Faculty of Economics
  • International Faculty of Management
  • Graduate School of Business
  • Faculty of Innovative Technologies
  • Department of Agrieconomics and Agribusiness of the Biological Institute
  • Department of Education Management of the Faculty of Psychology
  • Center for Public Administration in the Economy and Innovation
  • Center for Education in Public Procurement
  • International Laboratory for Stochastic Statistics and Quantitative Financial Analysis.

All these academic units will be reorganized once part of the School. All faculties will be merged while new academic departments to be established as professional groups in the key areas of the StrAU’s research and education.

Key areas of research

Over the recent years, the key areas of research of the academic units to be included into the StrAU’s are:

  • Technological development forecasting and public policy: cognitive systems in forecasting of scientific and technological trends; public policy towards creating an open entrepreneurial environment in the Russian regions.
  • Innovation and entrepreneurship development: technological entrepreneurship and corporate ventures; assessment of youth’s attitudes and involvement in innovation and entrepreneurial activity; innovation strategy of companies from BRICS and EAEC countries.
  • Big data and information systems in financial markets and institutions: modeling queuing system for bank office operations; modeling electronic stock exchange ICT system.

Summary of the Project

1. Goal / Mission

Educating leaders capable to provide pre-eminence through innovation in industries, markets and locations of the future.

2. Key Areas of Focus

The SIEM is being established as a business school of the third generation innovation and entrepreneurial university, focused on multidisciplinary educational programs and research, actively involved in innovation development and commercialization while being a central element in development of the University as a technology transfer hub.

Education:

  • Degree and non-degree programs to train future leaders for high-tech companies as well as entrepreneurs, capable to commercialize new technologies in emerging industries and markets.
  • University learning hub for students of all schools in innovation, entrepreneurship and economy of the future through multidisciplinary programs in these fields and building teams of students across StrAUs to jointly develop innovative projects.
  • Competence center in executive education and professional development programs in innovation and entrepreneurship.

Research:

  • Research focused on new management technologies in business and public administration to ensure competitiveness in the fourth industrial revolution.
  • Competence center in applied research and consulting in development of technological innovation, business and public management in Siberia and Far East as well as in doing business in Asia.

Innovation:

  • Development of the key elements of the University innovation ecosystem - innovation incubator/ accelerator, center for commercialization of innovations.
  • Building a platform for interaction with the business community, investors and regional and local governments.

3. Key Goals in the Context of the Global Academic and Research Agenda

  • Search for and education of young talents capable of bringing technological innovation to the global market (bachelor and master programs).
  • Development of change leaders capable to transform businesses and public administration to meet the challenges of the new industrial revolution (executive education programs).
  • Contribution to building new approaches in innovation management based on research outcomes.
  • Integration of the University innovation ecosystem.

4. Brief description of the StrAU’s role and its contribution to the University development

StrAU development will allow the University to create an innovation hub for interaction of researchers, developers and start-upers with Russian and international investors, companies and entrepreneurs. This hub will contribute to building stronger connections with the industry (e.g. through joint R&D) and create a pool of high-tech start-ups. In turn, it will lead to more sustainable and diversified revenue base of the University and enhance its reputation both in the academic and business communities.

5. Expected Project Implementation Outcomes

The key expected outcome is establishing the University innovation hub where companies and entrepreneurs will be able to obtain new technological knowledge from the forefront of R&D and combine it with competences in running innovation businesses. The hub will also facilitate interaction of researchers / developers with industry experts, market analysts, venture capitalists and innovation market infrastructure operators.

New opportunities and potential advantages for the university are related to:

  • New quality of degree programs due to bringing real innovation projects in classroom and joint learning in interdisciplinary teams of future scientists, engineers and managers to develop skills needed for successful commercialization of innovations.
  • Development of the University's reputation as a center of excellence in managing technological innovation as well as in accumulating and disseminating knowledge on industries, markets and locations of the future.
  • Securing effective operations of the University innovation infrastructure by linking it to innovation projects developed by interdisciplinary teams of students, faculty and alumni;
  • Revenue growth from executive education programs, commercialization of innovations, applied research and consulting projects.
