Mechanics of BioComposites, Design and Modeling its Structure

The programme will enable students to develop a deeper understanding of structural theory and its application in analysis and design of new-generation medical materials. The programme will also demonstrate the links between theory and practice by including input from our industrial partners.

Russian partners are:

Foreign partners are:

The proposed programme is designed to attract both home and international students, who wish to pursue their career in biomaterials and structural engineering. To meet the needs of increasing demand for structural engineers to design more safe, economic and environmental friendly materials, the programme content has specifically been designed to give a thorough grounding on current practice with regards to dealing with сyclic durability and design of new generation materials. A particular feature of this content lies with the emphasis on the performance based structural design philosophy. The strong focus on these aspects will appeal to home and international students who intend to become the next generation of structural engineers of medical materials after graduation.

The programme will enable students to develop a deeper understanding of structural theory and its application in analysis and design of new-generation medical materials. The programme will also demonstrate the links between theory and practice by including input from our industrial partners. Modules on theories of structures, materials and nonlinear structural analysis including computer-based structural analysis will focusing on structural design of specific materials. In addition, the Program will enable students to appreciate contemporary structural design and practice which will have significant inputs from practising engineers for design materials. Students’ skills in gathering and understanding complex information from a variety of sources (including engineering, scientific and socio-economic information) will be developed in a module on advanced research methods. A dissertation at the end of the course will be dealing with a structural engineering research topic of some complexity of biomaterials.
