An international delegation led by Leidulv Atle Namtvedt, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom Norway in Russia visited TSU. The group consisted of advisors on trade, on education, science, and technology, as well as representatives of leading Norwegian universities.
- The Norwegian government pays great attention to partnership in education and science, - said Leidulv Atle Namtvedt. - Last year we published a strategy for the development of international relations in this sphere. Russia was selected as one of the key partners. Because Sverre Rustad, an advisor of our embassy has already been in Tomsk and is already familiar with your university, we have supported his initiative to come here as a large group.
Norway’s Ambassador emphasized that his compatriots are hoping to develop real partnership in different spheres of science and education, because they have heard that Tomsk universities have a very high level and great interest in international partnerships.
Rector Eduard Galazhinsky said that TSU was created and developed as a world class research university, where academic traditions are very strong. He also noted that TSU is one of Russian universities working purposefully on the expansion of international cooperation and increasing its brand awareness in the world.
- The development of ties with international colleagues is one of the priorities for us today - said Eduard Vladimirovich. - TSU has well-established communication with the Norwegian universities. Partnership within the framework of Arctic and climate research is of particular interest for us: TSU has created a centre of excellence for this, and in Norway this issue has become crucial for a large university, The Arctic University of Norway.
Big science is now being implemented in large network projects and based on international collaboration, so it is important to develop partnerships between research groups, introducing them to each other personally. Both the Rector of TSU and the Norwegian Ambassador have agreed with this: "That was the reason why we are here," - concluded Ambassador Namtvedt.
After a meeting with the leadership of the University, the Norwegian delegation had a brief tour of the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography of Siberia.
