Japanese Art Festival invites you to classes of calligraphy and go

On August 17-30, the Japanese art festival “Spirit of Beauty and Beauty of the Soul” will be held. TSU is conducting it for the second time, with the support of the Japanese Embassy.

In the programme of the festival are master classes on Japanese calligraphy, the game go, and ikebana. Olga Selivanova from the Japan Foundation will conduct studies on monochrome ink painting, sumi-e. Uran Kuular, accredited teacher of the Embassy of Japan in the Russian Federation, will give a seminar on the creation of Japanese gardens. Under her leadership, the festival participants will create a plan for a Japanese garden, which will be set up on the shore of the lake in the Botanical Garden.

- The project of creating a Japanese garden on the shore of the lake is designed for three years; now the participants will prepare a plan, and in May they will be engaged in the landscaping, - says Elena Chabanets, the organizer of the festival and the head of the Tomsk branch of the Russia-Japan Society. - The place for the garden has already been chosen, there is an interesting space that can be used well: the garden will be split into two banks so that there are a garden and a view point. Plus, we can include the Asian group of plants, which grows there.

Two free master classes are also planned:

On August 24 and 25 from 11 am to 1 pm you can attend classes in Japanese calligraphy (2nd building of TSU, audience №120).

On August 25 and 26 from 12 noon to 2 pm you can attend master-classes on the game "go" (2nd building of TSU, room №120).

On August 30, the final day of the festival, an exhibition of the participants' works will open in the Cultural Center of TSU: viewers will be able to see ikebans, sumi-e paintings, and calligraphy works.

At 2 pm in the concert hall of TSU will be the solemn rewarding of the best participants and the screening of the film “Calligraphy Girls”, directed by Ryuichi Inomata.
