TSU started a conference "Russia and the EU: Cooperation in the sphere of science and education"

The conference is organized within the framework of The EU-Russia Year of Science 2014. The event was attended by the Siberian centers of the European Union representatives, historians, political scientists. In addition, the conference was attended by Ambassador, Head of the EU Delegation to the Russian Federation, Vygaudas Ušackas and the President of the Russian Association of European Studies Alexey Gromyko.

For three days, from 19 to 21 May, the conference participants discuss issues and problems of cooperation between Russia and the European Union in the field of science, education and politics in the EU and international cooperation in Eurasia.

-The activity of EU centers in Russia is extremely important - said at the opening ceremony TSU Rector Edward Galazhinsky. - Despite the difficult political situation, we should emphasize that science has no borders. Storms and passions will subside, but the relationship between our research teams should be preserved. Science is international, and I think it is symbolic that, despite the unfavorable contexts, we are discussing the joint European and Russian research institutions development prospects.

Ambassador, Head of the EU Delegation to the Russian Federation, Vygaudas Ušackas analyzed in his speech the relationship between Russia and the European Union , and also accentuated that in the current international situation, research centers should continue the partnership. The EU has recently launched a program "Horizon 2020" , with a budget of 80 billion rubles. A lot of Russian scientists may participate in this program.

- We live on the same continent , our history is tightly intertwined - said Vygaudas Ušackas. - We must work together . Over the past ten years, the EU has invested a lot in the development of relations with Russia . Unfortunately, at the moment our vision about the neighbors is not the same but we should get over it.

The President of the Russian Association of European Studies Alexey Gromyko said that this year marks the centenary of the First World War beginning . He drew parallels between 2014 and 1914 , and emphasized the differences and similarities of the Europe politics today and a hundred years ago and noted that Europe should focus on the regional integration projects development that may eventually become international integration.

- I think that the Ukraine issue should not occupy our attention - concluded Alexei Gromyko in his speech. - We are gathered here to discuss the other topics .
