A TSU Research Centre of Siberia presentation was held in Washington

A representative of Tomsk State University took part in the international conference "Prospects of formation of Russian expert communities with the involvement of scientist compatriots living abroad" (USA), as part of delegation headed by the Minister of Education, Science and Education of the Russian Federation,  This major scientific forum organized by the Association of Russian Scientists Living in the United States, RASA - USA, was held at George Washington University.

The conference is traditionally a platform for meetings and exchange of views for researchers, scientists,  and innovators. The main theme of the forum was participation of the Russian-speaking diaspora in the development of science in Russia, transnational mobility of researchers, global education, commercialization of academic research, and supporting youth in science.

The poster session was held during the conference. Tomsk State University presented the participants of the forum the Centres of Excellence and Research Centre of Siberia “Transsiberian Scientific Way (TSSW)”, created at TSU in August 2015. Its main task is to activate the research, education, and enlightenment work in the study of Siberia. The drafts of the strategic plan are in eight areas: earth science and ecology, history, archeology and ethnography, economics, humanities and health, language and culture, materials and technology, and urban studies and creative industries in Siberia and will be implemented under the auspices of the Centre.

- Some areas arouse particular interest of our American colleagues, - says Lyudmila Borilo, Chief Scientific Secretary of TSU, who took part in the conference. - First of all, the study of the relationship of Siberia to the global climate. Additionally study of the Russian language and sociological research in the Siberian Federal District arouses much interest. This visit was very useful. Thanks to participation in the conference organized by RASA USA, TSU made new business contacts. Now we are discussing with international counterparts some possible areas of joint research and the format of our interaction.
