Today at TSU, the Italian professors will hold a seminar titled “The principle lines of the modern Italian philology: Russian and Italian studies” within the framework of the Agreement on academic exchange concluded by TSU and University of Rome “La Sapienza”.

Tomsk State University and Sapienza University of Rome (Italy) signed an agreement on academic exchange of students and teaching staff in 2012, and the seminar will become one of the first jointly conducted activities of the two universities. Coordinator of the project on TSU side is Olga Borisovna Lebedeva, Professor of Philology.

The seminar “The principle lines of the modern Italian philology: Russian and Italian studies” will be carried out by Professor Rita Giuliani, Head of the Chair of Russian language and literature at “La Sapienza” University, the well-known across Europe Slavist, major specialist in the work of Gogol N.V., author of two monographs translated into Russian (coordinator of the project on the Sapienza University of Rome’s part); and Professor Elizabetta Mondello, specialist in Modern Italian prose.

Besides that, during the seminar, a number of lectures will be delivered by Professor of “La Sapienza” University Laura Di Nicola, specialist in Italian studies and in the work of Italo Calvino, and Associate Professor of “La Sapienza” University Yulia Vadimovna Nikolaeva, a linguist, specialist in the field of Russian-Italian language contacts.

The theme program of the seminar includes the consideration of literary and linguistic aspects of the “Russian question” as it arises before some leading modern Italian (more specifically, those of Rome) linguists. The protagonists of the research constituting the basis of the seminar themes have become conventional objects of the Russian-Italian cultural dialogue (i.e. N.V. Gogol) as well as relatively new personalities (L.Andreev, M.Bulgakov, I.Brodskiy on the Russian part and I.Svevo, I.Calvino on the Italian part, and others). The linguistic part of the seminar is dedicated to phenomena emerged within new processes of the general interaction between Russian and Italian people (i.e. the phenomenon of the Russian language in Italian diaspora).

In the seminar actively participating are bachelor students studying Italian as a third foreign language (specialty “theoretical and applied linguistics”) and master students of the 1st and 2d year studying on the program of “the Italian language and literature”.

The first lecture of the seminar will take place today, May 14th, at 14-45 in room 209 of the TSU main building.
