Last year TSU was the first of the Tomsk universities to enter QS’s subject ranking Computer Science, and now a new height, the THE ranking, has been reached. The subject ranking Computer Science contains 16 Russian universities, 11 of them participants in Project 5-100.
- The ranking results are connected with accomplishing the scientific agenda in computer science (work related to the processing of big data, virtual and augmented reality),- said Oleg Zmeev, TSU Vice-Rector for IT Development. – At the same time, new educational formats are important here, which TSU applies in the Higher IT School (HITs) project and current master programs and carries out in cooperation with leading world universities and industrial partners.
The Vice-Rector also noted active work on promoting the TSU brand in the international space as a university with a strong computer science school. This became possible through initiating the program in English for international bachelors students, working with priority partner countries.
The university also joined the 301-400 group in Engineering & Technology. The areas of expertise that experts evaluated included General Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Chemical Engineering. In the subject ranking Engineering & Technology, 28 universities represent Russian higher education, 15 of them Project 5-100 universities.
Note that the Times Higher Education ranking ranks universities in 11 subject areas: Clinical, pre-clinical & health; Life Sciences; Physical Sciences; Psychology; Arts & Humanities; Education; Law; Social Sciences; Business & Economics; Computer Science, and Engineering & technology.
THE uses 13 performance indicators to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons, trusted by students, academics, university leaders, industry, and governments.
The performance indicators are grouped into five areas: teaching (the learning environment); research (volume, income, and reputation); citations (research influence); international outlook (staff, students, and research); and industry income (knowledge transfer).
