Tomsk State University has opened the Department of Information Journalism. Its partner will be TASS, the largest Russian news agency and the fourth largest in the world after Reuters, the Associated Press, and Agence France-Presse. TASS will take part in the formation of work programmes.
- We believe that the availability of professional personnel is one of the main problems facing the profession. This is one of the fastest-changing industries, for example, in communication and content production. Everything has to be thoroughly studied. I think that TSU has all the potential for this professional and scientific work, - said Maxim Filimonov, the TASS editor-in-chief, after signing the partnership agreement.
- The development of the University is impossible without the development of communication and media policy. We understand that without professional work in positioning and reputation management of the University, we simply can not exist, - said Eduard Galazhinsky, Rector of TSU. - The purpose of today's meeting is to launch a new scientific and educational centre (SEC) together with our partners, which we will call the Higher School of Journalism.
A partnership agreement was also signed between Tomsk State University and one of the Tomsk TV channels: The University and the broadcaster will create joint educational programmes, develop scientific and educational television, and work with students.
The scientific and educational centre Higher School of Journalism was created to improve the training of specialists in close collaboration with the Russian news agencies and TV channels. The centre will implement interdisciplinary research, which will be sponsored by media holdings and the media. The SEC will have a council, which will include the heads of regional and federal mass media and will be headed by Maxim Filimonov, the chief editor of TASS.
