TSU is the best non-capital university in the Materials Science

Tomsk State University has risen by 129 positions in the U.S. News & World Report - Best Global Universities Ranking. In the subject area Materials Science, TSU took 285th place among the universities of the world and 3rd among Russian universities, surpassed only by MSU and National University of Science and Technology MISiS.

A distinctive feature of this ranking, which has been published for more than 30 years, is strict criteria for the selection of participating universities. The focus of the ranking is on research and academic reputation of universities.

In the overall ranking, TSU placed 6th of 14 Russian universities in the Best Global Universities and 572nd among world universities. In total, the ranking includes 1,250 universities from 75 countries. TPU, the second Tomsk university in the ranking, took the 919th position.

Also, TSU entered the three subject areas of the ranking. The best result is in Materials Science, where the University took 285th place. In Physics, TSU is 255th among the world's universities and 7th among Russian universities. In Chemistry, TSU ranked 407th in the world and 4th among Russian universities, surpassed only by MSU, NSU, and Saint Petersburg State University.

Best Global Universities Ranking is based on 13 indicators, including publications, total citations, and global and regional research reputation. Data for calculating indicators are taken from InCites, an online tool for assessing and comparing scientific organizations and research based on scientometric information in the Web of Science database.

The Best Global Universities Ranking has been issued for more than 30 years for American universities; in the international format, it is published for the fifth time. To be ranked among universities, a university must either enter the top 250 according to the Clarivate Analytics global reputation survey or have at least 1,500 publications in the Web of Science Core Collection for 2012-2016.
