TSU will study the problems of migration with a Swedish university

Tomsk State University and Uppsala University (Sweden) have signed an agreement on academic partnership. The parties intend to conduct joint research in social anthropology, to establish exchange of students and teachers, and to create educational programmes.

Uppsala University is the oldest university in Sweden (established in 1477). It is in 98th place in the QS World University Rankings 2016/17.

TSU and Uppsala University have collaborated since 2013 in the framework of the project The Human in the Changing World, which is implemented with the support of the Russian government’s megagrant. The partners are united by a common interest in the study of minority ethnic groups, social research in the Arctic, and migration problems.

- Signing of the agreement opens up new possibilities for dialogue and contribute to a qualitatively new level in the development of joint research and educational programmes, - said Irina Nam, Head of the TSU Laboratory for Social and Anthropological Research (LSAR).

In particular, the LSAR and the Uppsala Centre for Russian and Eurasian Studies are planning to develop joint research and academic mobility, and also endeavor to develop educational initiatives.
