TSU will teach forestry to German students

Representatives of the Biological Institute returned from Bavaria, where they took part in the fifth meeting of the Russian-German Working Group Meeting on Forestry. The outcome of the visit was an agreement on new joint projects to be implemented at Tomsk State University.

In particular, TSU together with the University of Applied Sciences Weihenstephan-Triesdorf is developing a dual master's degree programme MBA (Master of Business Administration) in forestry and landscape construction. It involves training for one year in Russia and one year in Germany, with a diploma from both universities. The programme aims at training highly qualified specialists and managers that will contribute to the development of the region’s forestry industry.

Along with this, the idea of creating at TSU a centre of advanced technologies for wood processing and sustainable forest management was discussed during the meeting of the Russian-German working group.

- Both we and the German side are interested in joint research and educational projects, - said Danil Vorobyov, the director of Biological Institute of TSU. - Management of the Tomsk Region is ready to support us in the realization of our ideas because international cooperation will be benefit not only Tomsk State University, but also to the whole region. At the moment we are working on the concept of the centre, which will be complemented by the proposals of German colleagues.

Tomsk State University is one of the few Russian universities which prepares not only bachelors but also masters of forestry. Recently these professionals have become increasingly popular, not only in Russia but also abroad.
