The Military Training Center at the National Research Tomsk State University (VUC at the TSU Research Institute) was established on the basis of the military training center and the military department, which were the successors of the traditions of one of the oldest TSU university military departments in Russia, founded back in 1926.  

From September 1 , 2019 The VUC at TSU carries out training of citizens of the Russian Federation studying at Tomsk State University full-time, according to programs of military training of specialists for communications troops, strategic missile forces, military intelligence and military translators.

Military training programs implemented at the VUC at the TSU Research Institute:

1. For military service under a contract in military positions to be replaced by officers, after receiving higher education (it is a targeted training of citizens studying under educational programs of higher education at the expense of budget allocations of the federal budget) in the following military accounting specialties:
• «Operation and repair of ground-based radio equipment»;
• «Operation and repair of combat control and communications equipment of strategic missile forces»;
  The term of study is 5.5 years. 
• «Linguistic support of military activities».
  The training period is 5 years. 


2. Citizens who have entered the National Research Tomsk State University, along with studying under the basic educational program of higher professional education, are trained in military training programs with obtaining after graduation a diploma in the specialty "Radio Electronic systems and complexes" or "Translation and Translation Studies" and the officer rank "lieutenant" with appointment to military positions to be replaced officers of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, namely: 
• Reserve officer in the following military accounting specialties:
• «The use of mixed military units and communication units»;
• «Application of units with radio communication facilities»; 
• «Organization of courier and postal communication»; 
• «The use of ground units of military intelligence»; 
• «Linguistic support of military activities».
  The term of study is 2.5 years. 
• Reserve sergeant in the following military accounting specialties:
• «Commander of the Military Intelligence Department».
  The training period is 2 years. 
• Reserve soldiers in the following military accounting specialties:
• «Head of a radio relay station (small-channel)».
  The training period is 1.5 years. 

To enroll in the military training center for the development of military training programs for reserve officers, sergeants and reserve soldiers, second-year students who are studying at TSU, have passed the military medical commission and are recognized as fit for military service are allowed. Students who have mastered the military training program, passed the training camp (internship) and successfully passed the final exam, after graduation from Tomsk State University, are awarded the military rank of "lieutenant", "sergeant" and "private" with subsequent enrollment in the reserve and the presentation of a military ID.
